Physical Risks

There are numerous potential physical risks of abortion including:

  • Infection
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Damage to the cervix or uterus
  • Increased risk of infertility
  • Increased risk of future miscarriage
  • Increased risk of premature births in future pregnancies

Emotional Risks

Some women may feel immediate relief after the abortion while others may have negative emotions immediately or years later. Some of those emotions may be:

  • Depression
  • Guilt, shame, sadness
  • Self-destructive behaviours
  • Alcohol or drug abuse
  • Flashbacks or nightmares on the anniversary of the procedure

Some women believe abortion is the only option. Some women are ambivalent about abortion. Other women may feel not only pressured by fear but also pressured by others to consider abortion. We are here to help you sort through your thoughts, feelings and questions. Our trained peer support workers will assist you to explore all of your options. They will also provide you with accurate information on abortion procedures and risks. We are here to support you, regardless of your decision.
